In July, 2008 I joined the TCCON (Total Carbon Column Observing Network) team to work on the OCO (Orbitting Carbon Observatory) satellite validation efforts.  Given the unfortunate demise of OCO and the successful launch of the Japanese GOSAT (Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite), the scope of my work shifted to the packaging and delivery of TCCON data, specifically from Park Falls, WI and Lamont, OK, to the GOSAT team.  Additional responsibilities include monitoring the daily operations and maintanence of the Park Falls FTS containter, analyzing the infrared solar absorption spectra from various TCCON sites in order to determine the atmospheric abundances of trace gases: CO2, CH4, N2O, HF, CO, H2O, and HDO, and managing and distributing the TCCON data as requested.

Following the failed launch of OCO, the Congressional Conference committee directed NASA to allocate money for an OCO replacement (now known as OCO-2).  This allocation included funding for two new FTS systems and the fabrication of their "housings" and I was tasked with purchasing, construction, some design, testing, and operation of these two systems.  It is assumed that they will eventually be a part of TCCON.  

The first of the two "housings" (a mobile lab) was built at Caltech in the fall of 2010 and moved to JPL on 3/16/2011.  Installation of the new FTS system began 3/28/11, the first solar measurement took place on 3/31/11, and OCO-2 TVac-1C took place in Jan. of 2012.  Upon completion of the TVac-2, it is expected that NASA will take over the ownership of this FTS.  

The second FTS was installed in the solar tower of the newly renovated Linde-Robinson building at Caltech in Dec., 2011.  This FTS will remain at Caltech.

The Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) was presented as a poster at the 2010 NASA Terrestrial Ecology Meeting (Mar., 2010).
